Custom tournaments

If a tournament isn’t in Fanzava’s built-in template library, you can build it from scratch.

Creating a custom bracket

1. Go to Admin → Competitions → New competition
2. Choose Bracket as the competition type
3. Select Custom tournament
4. Configure the tournament structure:
   • Number of teams
   • Number of rounds
   • Tournament format (single elimination or double elimination)
   • Round names (e.g. “Round of 16”, “Quarterfinal”, “Semifinal”, “Grand Final”)

Adding teams

After creating the structure, add the teams:

1. Go to Admin → Bracket → Teams
2. Add each team name (and optional seed number)
3. Arrange teams in bracket draw order

If the draw is seeded, Fanzava populates the first-round matchups according to standard seeding convention (1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, etc.). You can manually adjust matchups if the draw doesn’t follow standard seeding.

Entry deadline

Set the entry deadline — the date and time after which participants can no longer submit or change their bracket. This is typically set to just before the first match kicks off.

Entering results

For custom tournaments, results are entered manually:

1. Go to Admin → Bracket → [Round]
2. Click a matchup
3. Enter the winning team (and score if using margin scoring)
4. Confirm

Fanzava advances the winner to the next round automatically and scores all affected participant brackets.

Resetting a result

If you enter an incorrect result, you can reset it before the next round starts:

1. Click the matchup in the bracket view
2. Click Reset result
3. Re-enter the correct result

Resetting a result rescinds points for all affected picks and resets the bracket progression. This cannot be undone for matches that have already advanced teams into subsequent rounds.

Note

If you need to handle a bye, voided match, or walkover, use the Mark as bye / no contest option when entering the result. Tips for that matchup are voided; no points are awarded or deducted.
