Tiebreakers

When two or more participants have the same total points, Fanzava applies tiebreaker rules to determine their relative ranking.

  1. Total correct tips — the participant with more correct tips overall ranks higher
  2. Last round points — if still tied, the participant with more points in the most recent round ranks higher
  3. Earlier round performance — if still tied, Fanzava works backwards through previous rounds
  4. Alphabetical — if still tied after all above, alphabetical by display name

Go to Admin → Competition → Settings → Tiebreakers to change the order or disable any rule:

RuleDescription
Total correct tipsMore correct picks ranks higher
Tips correct %Higher accuracy % ranks higher
Last round pointsBetter last-round score ranks higher
Round winsMore rounds with the highest score ranks higher
Margin accuracyIf margin prediction is enabled, closer margin guesses rank higher
AlphabeticalFinal fallback — always enabled

Drag rules to reorder them. The topmost active rule is applied first.

For end-of-season prizes, a persistent tie is possible (e.g. two participants with identical scores across every round). In this case, Fanzava marks both as equal rank and both receive the prize for that position.

If you want to break ties at season end using a specific rule (e.g. a special tiebreaker question), you can manually override a participant’s final score in Admin → Competition → Final scores.

Tiebreaker rules apply independently within each leaderboard — hub-wide and per-group. Two participants could be tied on the hub-wide board but in different positions on a group leaderboard depending on their group-specific performance data.
