Joker tips

The joker lets participants mark one tip per round as their “joker pick”. A correct joker tip is worth double points. An incorrect joker tip scores zero — same as any other wrong pick.

  1. Go to Admin → Competition → Settings → Scoring
  2. Toggle Joker tips on
  3. Choose when participants can set their joker:
    • Any time before round lock — participants can change their joker up until the first fixture locks
    • Before first fixture only — joker must be set before the round’s first game starts (no late changes)

On the tipping page, participants see a joker icon next to each fixture. Clicking it designates that game as their joker for the round. They can change it to a different fixture at any time before the deadline.

A participant who doesn’t set a joker for a round simply doesn’t get the bonus — unused jokers don’t carry over.

If a participant uses their joker on a fixture that’s already worth 2 points, a correct tip earns 4 points (2 × 2).

The joker mechanic significantly increases engagement because it creates a strategic decision each round. Participants who might otherwise feel certain rounds are “already lost” stay invested when they have a joker to play.
