Margin prediction
Margin prediction extends tipping by asking participants to predict not just who wins, but by how much. Bonus points are awarded based on how close the prediction is to the actual margin.
Default bonus scale
Section titled “Default bonus scale”| Distance from actual margin | Bonus points |
|---|---|
| Exact | +3 |
| Within 6 points/runs | +2 |
| Within 12 points/runs | +1 |
| Outside 12 | +0 |
The base pick still scores normally. Margin bonus is on top.
Enabling margin prediction
Section titled “Enabling margin prediction”- Go to Admin → Competition → Settings → Scoring
- Toggle Margin prediction on
- Choose scope:
- All fixtures — every game in every round
- Selected fixtures — you designate specific games (e.g. finals only)
When enabled, the tipping interface shows a margin input field alongside the team selector.
Configuring the bonus scale
Section titled “Configuring the bonus scale”You can adjust the bonus bands and values in competition settings:
- Change the point value for exact, near, and close predictions
- Adjust the band widths (e.g. within 3, within 9, within 18 instead of 6 and 12)
- Set a custom sport’s margin unit (points, runs, goals, etc.)
Margin and incorrect tips
Section titled “Margin and incorrect tips”The margin bonus only applies to correct winner picks. If a participant tips the wrong team, they score zero regardless of how close their margin prediction was.
Sport-specific considerations
Section titled “Sport-specific considerations”Different sports have different typical margins. AFL games often swing by 20–60 points; EPL matches are decided by 1–3 goals. You may want to set tighter bands for low-scoring sports.
